Making Islamic economics and finance research accessible — regardless of where you’re based, or what you can afford.
Why this fund exists
Across Islamic economics and finance, brilliant research goes unpublished every year — not because it isn’t good enough, but because publishing costs and conference fees are out of reach for many researchers, particularly those affiliated with smaller, independent journals or institutions without their own funding support.
The IFR Publishing Waqf Fund exists to close that gap — subsidising publication fees and conference participation costs so that good research reaches the people who need to read it, wherever its author happens to be from.
How the fund works
Waqf Principal Fund
Contributions here join the fund’s endowed principal. In line with classical waqf principles, this amount is preserved and invested — only its investment returns are ever spent, meaning your contribution supports researchers not just today, but for years to come.
Sadaqah Pool
Contributions here are used directly and immediately to fund waivers for researchers awaiting a decision right now. 100% of every gift here goes straight to supporting a current applicant.
Who it’s for
This fund is for:
-
- Researchers publishing in independent Islamic economics and finance journals, including JIBEP
-
- Presenters at the Global Ethical Finance Academic Conference who face genuine barriers to attending
-
- Institutions and individuals who want to support equitable access to knowledge in this field
Closing note / transparency
The fund is currently in its founding phase. Every application is reviewed individually, and — where the applicant is employed — we verify affiliation directly with their institution to ensure the fund’s resources reach those who need them. A public summary of funds raised and disbursed will be made available here as the fund grows.
