Who We Are

An Independent Publisher at the Heart of Islamic Finance Research

Islamic Finance Review (IFR) is an independent academic publisher dedicated to advancing research, dialogue, and understanding in Islamic banking, economics, and ethical finance. Our work sits at the intersection of Islamic finance, ethical finance, and sustainability — bridging scholarship and practice across economics, governance, FinTech, and public policy to support a more just and equitable global financial system. Through JIBEP, GEFAC, and the IFR Publishing Waqf Fund, we support researchers and practitioners working at the forefront of the field.

IFR Publishing Waqf Fund

Supporting Researchers Who Cannot Cover Publication Costs

The IFR Publishing Waqf Fund is a fee waiver fund established to ensure that financial barriers do not prevent quality research from being published. Rooted in the Islamic principle of Waqf — an endowed fund whose returns are used for public benefit — contributions to the principal are preserved and only the returns are disbursed.

Applications are reviewed manually and assessed fairly against income tier, employment status, and journal criteria. The fund is governed transparently — a live public dashboard shows donations received and waivers granted.

✦  Open to researchers in independent Islamic finance journals

✦  Assessed against World Bank income tier classification

✦  Employer or supervisor verification for fairness

✦  Principal fund preserved — only returns disbursed

✦  Live transparency dashboard — public and open
