Diversity and Inclusion Policy

Our Vision for Inclusion

At Islamic Finance Review (IFR), we believe that diversity and inclusion are fundamental to the pursuit of academic excellence and ethical scholarship. As a platform dedicated to advancing Islamic banking, economics, and finance, we are committed to creating an environment where all individuals feel valued, respected, and empowered to contribute meaningfully.

We recognise that diverse perspectives are essential for generating impactful research and informed discourse. Inclusion is not simply a principle we support—it is integral to how we operate.

Representation in Research and Publishing

Through our journal, the Journal of Islamic Banking, Economics and Policy (JIBEP), we aim to amplify voices from across academic disciplines, regions, and professional backgrounds. We are committed to ensuring fair, transparent, and unbiased peer review and editorial processes. Submissions are evaluated solely on academic merit, and we actively welcome contributions from:

  • Early-career researchers
  • Women in Islamic finance and economics
  • Scholars from underrepresented communities or institutions
  • Interdisciplinary or non-traditional perspectives on Islamic finance

Our editorial board is continually developed with these goals in mind, reflecting a broad and inclusive academic community.

Equity in Internships and Collaborations

In our internship programmes and professional collaborations, we promote equality of opportunity and encourage applicants from all backgrounds. Selection decisions are based on motivation, potential, and merit—not on any protected characteristic.

We foster a supportive working culture where interns and collaborators are treated with dignity and fairness. Reasonable adjustments are available for those with accessibility needs, and we maintain a zero-tolerance policy for any form of discrimination, harassment, or exclusion.

Building a Culture of Respect

We believe that inclusion is an active process, not a passive position. Everyone who interacts with IFR—whether as an author, reviewer, speaker, intern, or event participant—has the right to feel safe, heard, and respected.

We expect all contributors and stakeholders to engage with professionalism, courtesy, and an openness to diverse views. Creating inclusive spaces, whether in-person or online, is a shared responsibility that underpins the credibility of our work.

Ongoing Reflection and Improvement

We acknowledge that our commitment to diversity and inclusion must evolve alongside the communities we serve. This policy is subject to regular review, and we invite dialogue, critique, and suggestions from our stakeholders.

We strive to remain transparent in our practices and accountable to our values. Through continuous reflection, we aim to ensure that IFR not only reflects diversity but also actively contributes to it.
